EPA Registration
What is an EPA Registration and why does the Mint-X® Trash Bag need to be registered by the EPA?
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency's website:
"A pesticide is any substance or mixture of substances intended for: preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any pest." (www.epa.gov)
According to our data, the bag is 100% safe and effective. However, the EPA requires the Mint-X® Trash Bag to be registered due to the fact that Mint-X® makes the claim that it repels rats.
The Mint-X® Trash Bag is the first and only EPA Registered rat repellent trash bag.
Our EPA Number is 85589-1.
The registration process is costly as well as time consuming. The EPA performs a thorough evaluation of the required data to determine that the product is 100% safe, effective and poses no adverse effects to the environment or any non-target organisms. Essentially, the EPA will not allow a product to be registered unless they are certain that it is safe and effective. According to the EPA's website:
"Federal law requires that before selling or distributing a pesticide in the United States, a person or company must obtain registration or license, from EPA. Before registering a new pesticide or new use for a registered pesticide, EPA must first ensure that the pesticide, when used according to the label directions, can be used with a reasonable certainty of no harm to human health and without posing unreasonable risks to the environment." (www.epa.gov)
Importance of the EPA Registration
The EPA registration is required by law if one were to manufacture and distribute a product that makes pesticidal claims on the label. However, more importantly, this registration allows Mint-X® to feel comfortable distributing bags to buildings, homes and restaurants.
